A Birthday Bash and a Quote By A. A. Milne

Little Kimball had an awesome birthday bash, and somewhere along the way he used Deedee and Papa's gifts to transform himself into (take a big breath here) "Kimball the Caped Crusader Who Walks In Woody's Boots and Swings King Arthur's Sword While Defending Himself with the Shield of Truth and Righteousness All the While Playing Show Tunes on His New Keyboard!"  Wow, that's quite a name for a little four-year-old dude!

Kimball the Caped Crusader Etc. Etc. loved his cake.  Look at that stoic expression.  He! Is! Batman!

At Kimball the Caped Crusader Etc. Etc.'s request, the head of the superhero was offered to him on a silver platter in a white bowl.

I'm not quite sure how the head got transferred to a blue bowl, but it tasted just the same.  Check out Kimball's little look-alike uncle in the background.

Alas, these darlings had to return to California much, much too soon!  Our house is disturbingly quiet now . . .   :(

"How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard."
A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh

I love you guys!  *sniff*

It's Day Eleven of the Kimball Chronicles!

Kimball turned four yesterday, but he had his party today.  All of that present opening and cake eating and happy birthday singing must have taken a toll because Kimball fell dead asleep in the car as we were riding back home, and here he remained, out like a light on our couch for a good long time.  So long, in fact, that Aldolpho sort of took advantage of the situation and really rallied behind (ha!) Kimball and his need for a long winter's nap!

Pics of Kimball and his totally awesome birthday party and birthday cake and birthday presents to come tomorrow.  Also, a very, very sad good-bye.  Let's just say that I'm in mourning :(

Day Ten of Rollicking Fun with Kimball! More Importantly, Happy, Happy Birthday, Master K!

This little man turns four years old today!  Can I get a WOOT, WOOT and a TOOT, TOOT!  We love our little Kimball with all of our hearts, and we are so grateful he is a part of our eternal family!  It's crazy, but it is so hard to think of life without this sweet little boy!!!

In honor of day ten of fun with Kimball, I give you ten pics in which you must find Aldolpho.  And, if I didn't already love Macey's grocery store to pieces, I love it even more now after they allowed us to goof off and make such nuisances of ourselves this evening!  Papa is a pretty good sport too!

Did you find Aldolpho in all ten photos?  Somehow, somewhere, he lost one of his gold disco shoes.  Sad.

Kimball insisted (really!) that I take this pic!  In fact, this is the second take because he wasn't quite satisfied with the first one :D  Don't be fooled into thinking this is what we're looking forward to with his new four-year-old-ness; Kimball has a very sweet and tender heart and is our pride and joy!

HAPPY, HAPPY FOURTH BIRTHDAY,
MASTER KIMBALL!

Skyping with Christian on Christmas Day--THE BEST PRESENT EVER!!! Also on Tap: Day Nine of Kimball and Friends!

Isn't technology a beautiful thing?  Er, when one can get it to work, that is.  Thank the blessed stars for Seanie who was here to bail out his ol' mom and pop when we couldn't get that blasted Skype to cooperate so we could see our awesome Christian on Christmas Day!  Sean knew just what to do to make the magic happen, and it was simply magical!

Christian seemed as happy as a pickle, and he says he is being looked after so well by the members in his ward, bless their hearts!  He was Skyping with us at his bishop's home who happens to be British, so of course, Christian received those super-fun Christmas poppers. The green crown on Christian's head was one of his prizes.  I was pretty sure the green crown wasn't part of the approved missionary garb, but it was nice to find out for sure.

If they aren't already, the glasses Christian sports in this first video should be a part of the church-approved missionary look in my humble opinion.  Pretty spiffy if you ask me.

We asked Christian to say a few words in Swedish, and I'd say he could give any of those natives a run for their money.

The translation is pretty darn great too :D

Just between you and me, as soon as we ended our Skype tete-a-tete with our incredible Christian, I basically crumpled into a weeping heap 'o tears, I missed him so.  Let it be known, however, that there is nowhere I would rather he be, nor nothing I would rather he be doing than serving so faithfully and so happily in Sweden! . . . which is freezing . . . and is thousands of miles away from me . . . and I wish I could be with him . . .

Cosmo earns a big thumbs up from Kimball!

Aldolpho is simply having a ball!  Where is he?

Kimball is thinking, "Some day.  Some day I'll look at this dude eye to eye and stand shoulder to shoulder!  Gotta eat more Wheaties first though . . . ."

. . . He Never Knew What Hit Him--Day Eight!

I don't think our little Aldolpho had a chance from the very get-go:

Kimball the Fiesty Pirate on the Briny Sea--Day Seven!

Kimball wrangled Papa into setting up this new gift that Santa delivered to Papa and Deedee so they could add it to their stash of toys, then he and Papa set sail, picking up a stranded castaway along the way!

Ahoy, matey!

Truth be known, I think First Mate Papa was totally having as much fun inside the pirate ship as Cap'n Kimball!

Skyping with Christian today was simply stellar!  Photos to come :D

Day Six Brings Lots of Sweetness!

Kimball's face is only a subtle harbinger of things to come.  Read on!

Time was on Ashley's side as she constructed her fabulous clock tower!  Looks like the bewitching hour must begin at precisely 10:10.

Marian's very clever and perfectly scaled-to-size stable for the nativity!  She didn't even figure our nativity set into her planning, but sometimes things just sync up like that.  Awesome.

Sean's house of cards!  It's sturdy!  It's solid!  It's see-through!  I like the sunning decks on each side, perfect for morning and afternoon basking!

Dave's "witch house" (think Hansel & Gretel) looks so innocent, doesn't it.  The name definitely concerned Kimball more than just a tiny bit.

Kimball and Deedee's free-form structure.  Kimball was definitely in his element sawing those walls with his little plastic knife and directing the entire project!

Jordan's stately manor house!  I'm looking for Bates the valet and Anna the upstairs maid to pop out any minute.  Where are those two anyway?

Not one to ever be left out of the hullabaloo, Aldolpho makes his appearance thinking he's all "wise" and such.  Where is his frankensense and/or myrrh?

Day Five and the 1990's Side Ponytail

Kimball loves posing for the camera; he is a natural! He doesn't mind at all taking direction and will ham it up just like a miniature Martin Short if you ask him to.  You oughtta be in pictures, kid!

Aldolpho, on the other hand, is hanging out with those who have made a much superior contribution to the humanities than a bare backend and a side ponytail.

Making Friends--Day Four!

Bet you guys didn't know that we have the privilege of hosting our own in-house trumpeter!  I know!  We like to call him "Winthrop" in honor of his namesake in the movie, The Music Man.

Kimball decided his own itchy fate when he suggested that Aldolpho get shoved down his shirt for this photo-op.  It was immediately after this photo was taken that Kimball decided Aldolpho no longer needed to wear his clothing.  Since this is a family-type horse and pony show here at the ol' blog, I decided against posting that particular pic.

Day Three of Kimballness!

I think Papa and Kimball look awfully guilty about something or other.  They both have a rather conspiratorial look about them, don't you think?

The Fun Continues--Day Two!

Kimball to our photo bomber, Aldolpho:
"I think I'll stay here while you go on ahead!"
*Rimshot*

This little San Diego dweller was loving our snowy
backyard . . . uh, for a couple of minutes anyway.
Frostbitten fingers were NOT on the agenda today.

Anybody remember the Great Gazoo?

Lucky for Kimball, Dave makes a pretty good clydesdale!

Let the Good Times Roll--Day One!

The party is just beginning at our house!  Look who arrived tonight to spread holiday cheer and Christmas fun!  WOOT, WOOT!  TOOT, TOOT!

Hey!  We have a photo bomber amongst us, and no, it's not Jordan!  Do you see our bomber somewhere in both pics?  Be on the lookout for this naughty little intruder in days to come!

Let the good times roll!  YEEHAW!

(See that envelop perched on the right side of the tree?  That is a letter which was included in a package sent to us from our darling elder boy!!!  Can't wait to open it!)

12-12-12 = 20?!!!

Looky at who is turning
20 on 12-12-12!!!

I gotta tell you, I couldn't feel more blessed to have the privilege, and, make no mistake, it IS a privilege, to be the mother of this amazing and incredible young man.  How does one get to be so lucky?  I'm sure I do not know, but I do know that I am the luckiest gal in the universe!  I love Christian with all of my being, with all of my essence, with all of my soul.  My goodness, I love him.

Happy, happy birthday
to our most wonderful and extraordinary son!

In honor of Christian's birthday, I thought I would include a pic of a cake his BYU family home evening sisters made for him when he received his call to Sweden.  Let us all virtually raise of fork of cake in his name!  Here's to Aldste Sagers!

This is what Christian has to look forward to on his birthday! YEOW!

Jeepers, I love my young elder to the moon and back, with all of my soul, with all of my heart, with every bit of me!  I am so blessed, and I KNOW it!!!

How Does One Celebrate Thanksgiving In Mexico?

How was your Thanksgiving dinner?  Mine was lovely!  Sharing dinner with Dave's parents and a passel of in-laws and nieces and nephews couldn't have been better!  What made the day even more special was that I didn't host the dinner for the first time in, oh, I don't know, eons!  I felt like a slacker.  In a word, it was simply fabulous.

Sean, on the other hand, had tacos for his Thanksgiving dinner, along with a big, heapin' helping of the joy that true and selfless service brings to a person.  Sean choose to use his precious Thanksgiving break to travel to Mexico to build a house.  And, build a house he did!  I'm telling you, this boy has one of the biggest hearts in the world.  Oh, how I love him so.

Happy belated Thanksgiving to my wonderful and amazing Builder Bob Seanie!!!

*Please note that Seanie did get to eat some fabulous Thanksgiving food along with the tacos.  You can see battered and fried shark meat in the sixth photo up above.  Sean said it was delicious :D
